Rest in Peace

My Godmother (who was also my Aunt) died yesterday. I have no other details as yet but she had advanced emphysema and was permanently attached to an oxygen canister. She was an amazing lady. She had a fantastic sense of humour and even through her illness she never lost her sense of self. She had been living in France with my Uncle for a while now and it was uplifting for hubby and I to see when we visited last May that she was the same old person she had always been, just dragging a tube behind her. She was very down to earth and impacted my life in how she was able to shrug things off and see the funny side. She was often able to provide a side of a situation that had never even crossed my mind. I hope I am able to take a lesson from her ability to see things in other ways.
I pray that she didn’t suffer and also for my Uncle and the rest of the family at this difficult time.

Napping

Both of my men are currently napping. The small one is in the sling on my chest snoring quietly to himself while I sit in the chair in the corner of the living room (he must be really sound asleep for me to get away with that!!) and the other one is asleep on the sofa. The sun is shining and it’s glorious. I rather wish I could have a nap too…
The horrid nasty cold is still lingering and just won’t seem to go away. It’s been a full week now and although I don’t feel Really Terrible as I did on a few days, it’s still not fun. Blargh.

Another tooth!

Tooth number 2 appeared yesterday – on the top (I thought they were supposed to come in pairs – bottom two, top two, etc.??). So now Munchkin has one on the bottom middle, and another on the top middle (opposite side of middle so they aren’t one on top of the other). This one was preceded by quite a bit of grizzling and some disrupted sleep but still not bad considering some of the teething stories I’ve heard.
Btw (for the benefit of Ian), after the last tooth appeared there were one or two incidents of biting but they soon stopped (once Munchkin realised that biting resulted immediately in no more milk for that particular session) so I am still happily breastfeeding him. It wasn’t a particular feat of perseverance, just a few painful moments!

Constructive things

Funny how things can be on a ‘to do’ list for absolutely ages and then they finally happen. There seem to have been a few of these recently. The shed is one of them – we’ve been putting birthday and Christmas money aside for the shed for over 18 months and finally it was all done and installed last week. I did a load of organising and sorting over the last couple of weeks in our room that has needed doing for ages and things are a lot tidier and easier in there now. The last few days we’ve been sorting and doing things in the dining room area. We’ve had a homemade sort of drawer-tidy thing in there for ages in an alcove space next to the boiler cupboard (which takes up the rest of the alcove space). It was originally made by hubby to fit the cupboard-under-the-stairs when we lived in Swansea, it kept tools and shoe cleaning stuff and other bits and pieces tidy. It wasn’t really designed to be in view and is quite a makeshift affair consisting of three pieces of MDF, some boxes and some runners (although has been great and did the job perfectly). We now have shelves (cut from the old MDF) filling the gap between the boiler cupboard and the edge of the alcove, and the stuff has been moved. It’s taken three evenings but we’re there now!
Last night we both stood and looked at the completed work and asked each other why on earth we hadn’t done it a long time ago!!!! Next step is a door to make it into a cupboard (but that’s not on the ‘urgent’ list!!).
It’s so satisfying when something’s been needing to be done for ages but just been at the bottom of the list (underneath the infinite loop of looking after the baby, making sure meals are on the table, doing washing and generally surviving day to day) is done. :o )

Purple sprouting

Today hubby and I walked down to the allotment with Munchkin in the sling and we picked our first bits of purple sprouting. We’ll be eating it as part of supper tonight – yum!!

I also took a few pictures the other day of the new shed:

and the over winter broad beans :o )
